A few weeks ago we visited a small Nature Reserve in the Free State Province, in search of a rare bird, but were forced to turn around due to the poor condition of the road inside the reserve after heavy rains, which were just not suitable for the standard sedan we were driving.
As we headed out of the reserve we could see heavy weather building up on the horizon and I stopped to take a couple of images with my I-phone – I was quite pleased with the contrast between sunlit grassland in the foreground and the dark build-up of weather in the background.

Even a rare bird sighting has to give way to the weather and the conditions of the road – if one is being sensible 🙂
Indeed – I’m just not sure how sensible I may have been if Gerda wasn’t with me …… But in the end I took heed of the attendant at the entrance gate who looked at our car with some sceptism and warned us that “there’s no one that can come and rescue you” !
